TDBA’S PA WILDS BDR-X TOUR
Announcing The First TDBA Guided Adventure Tour
Pa Wilds BDR-X
September 28 – October 1, 2023
Here’s what you need to know:

TDBA is a proud supporter of the
Backcountry Discovery Route organization.
What is it? The PA Wilds BDR-X is a four day adventure through some really beautiful sections of North-Central Pennsylvania. If you don’t know, BDR stands for Backcountry Discovery Route. BDRs are developed all across the country by an outstanding group of ADV experts. The PA Wilds trip is a beginner friendly off-road motorcycle tour, with some expert options along the way for those who want them. The route is a loop that starts and ends at the same location in New Columbia, PA. You can learn more about BDRs at ridebdr.com, and about the PA Wilds route at https://ridebdr.com/pawilds/. Check out the video you’ll find there with some great shots of the PA Wilds trip!
When? We start on Thursday September 28, ready to ride at 9:00 am in New Columbia, PA. We’ll return to the starting point by 5:00 pm (we’ll likely be earlier) on Sunday, October 1.
Who Is This Trip For? Because it’s both beginner friendly and short (a typical BDR is about 7-10 days), this PA Wilds trip is a great way to test the ADV waters if you’ve never taken an adventure trip. It’s also a great way to get in a quick ADV fix if you’re more experienced. Our PA Wilds trip is for a) anybody over 18 who has completed either the TDBA dirt bike or ADV bike class, or b) any other adult who has at least a modest amount of off-road motorcycle experience. All participants must have a valid motorcycle license, and have appropriate registration and insurance. While the PA Wilds trip is beginner friendly (with some optional expert sections), if you’ve never ridden off-road or taken our class, our trip isn’t for you. All riders must use their own ADV or dual sport bike. Our group will include no more than eight riders, plus two TDBA team members.
Where Will We Stay? Each night, you will have the option to either camp or stay in a hotel. We will have options for both hotels and campsites pre-established before the trip.
What Does It Cost? Since this is our first guided tour, we’re offering this experience for a very low fee: $100 per person covers the entire four-day adventure, just to allow us to recoup our expenses (including insurance). You are responsible for expenses associated with your own meals, lodging (camp site or hotel fees), incidentals, and other things you might need along the way.
What should I pack? What gear should I wear? What’s the best GPS sytem? Hard bags or soft? What tires should I use? What’s the best bike for this trip? Oh, and of course: what oil do I need!!!?? 😉 There are as many opinions on these kinds of questions as there are ADV riders. We’re happy to share our views, so if you have any specific questions, just let us know ([email protected]/thedirtbikeacademy or 570-228-2236). In the meantime, the BDR site has some good information. Check out the FAQ specifically for the PA Wilds route (ridebdr.com/pawilds/), as well as their general BDR FAQ (https://ridebdr.com/bdr-faqs/). And if you register for our PA Wilds trip, we’ll send you our suggested packing list: a spreadsheet with a complete breakdown of what to bring that even includes suggestions for which bag to put things in.
What Do I Get? TDBA is an off-road motorcycle training school, so you can expect to learn a thing or two about how to ride your bike on an adventure trip. We’ll stop at certain sections of the route to talk about riding technique and demonstrate strategies for handling different terrain. We’ll also cover – through both discussion and actually doing it together – the ins and outs of adventure motorcycle travel: how to pack, camping approaches, bike mods, navigation, gear, apparel . . . and lots and lots of other ADV topics. What else do you get? The indescribable experience that comes from spending time outside on trails and backroads through beautiful countryside and friendly small towns. We also guarantee you’ll meet some great people along the way – including the gang you’ll be riding with.
OK, wow, I’m in. Let’s do it!! Now what? Just fill out the form below and we’ll get back to you with more details. Or, if you have questions, shoot us a line at [email protected]/thedirtbikeacademy. Can’t wait to see you on the trip!
