Dirt Bike Foundations Course

dirt bike lessons for beginners

TDBA'S Dirt Bike Foundations Course is designed for adults and kids  (ages 6 and up) looking to learn the key fundamentals of dirt biking in a way that provides confidence and promotes safety. The curriculum for the course is from the Motorcycle Safety Foundation's Dirt Bike School Closed Range Exercise course.

Who is this course for?

  • Anyone, adults or kids, new to dirt biking.  No motorcycle experience required.
  • Anyone with limited dirt bike experience (less than 25 hours on a dirt bike) who has never had any formal dirt bike training.
  • Please note: the amount of experience you have riding a motorcycle on the street does not affect which course you should take.  If you have a lot of of on-road riding experience, of course we'll spend less time on some aspects of the course ("this is the clutch, this is the brake . . ."), but you should still take this course if you're new to the dirt.

What will we do?  This course will take you through a series of 14 on-range exercises that will give you what you need to know to become a solid off-road rider.  The exercises cover things like clutch and throttle control, braking, turning, body position, obstacles, and many other aspects of dirt bike riding.  For those who are ready, at the end of the course we'll do some riding together through our property's grounds.

Also: No bike? No problem. We have a stable of different sized dirt bikes you can use at no additional cost.

All Foundations classes are one full day. For Foundations classes, you must bring a DOT certified helmet, over the ankle boots (motorcycle boots not required), long pants (no sweats), a long sleeve shirt, gloves, and goggles.
